Long lead times and a moving exchange rate
Twelve-week lead times, freight and duty on every shipment, and a landed cost that changes with the dollar. Order early enough and know what it truly cost.
- Lead times measured in weeks
- Freight, duty and customs on every order
- Costs in more than one currency
By the time you notice, it is already too late
With a twelve-week lead time, the decision that causes a February stockout is made in November. Reacting to a low stock warning is not a strategy that works at that distance.
- The order-by date is the whole game. Knowing an item is low is useless if the ship left last week. What matters is the date the order has to be placed.
- The invoice is not the cost. Freight, duty and customs can add a meaningful percentage, and margin calculated on the supplier price alone is fiction.
- Every shipment lands at a different rate. Currency movement means the same product costs something different each time. Shopify's static cost field does not automatically calculate an average when you receive stock.
Order-by dates and a true landed cost
Lead time is a first-class setting, per supplier and per variant, and it drives every date Stockie shows you.
- Reorder point built from your real lead time. Set lead time and safety stock as days of cover per supplier. A twelve-week supplier gets flagged twelve weeks out, automatically.
- Orders in the supplier's currency. Each purchase order carries its own currency, so totals are never blended across currencies on one document.
- Freight and duty allocated into unit cost. Spread charges across the order by value at receiving, and the per-unit cost that lands in your ledger includes them.
- A weighted average that smooths the noise. Each receipt contributes its quantity and cost to the weighted average, so valuation reflects the mix of stock you hold.
Common questions
Can lead times differ per supplier?
Yes, and per variant too. Precedence runs from your store-wide default, to the supplier, to the individual variant, so a slow item from a fast supplier can be handled without changing anything else.
How is freight allocated across an order?
By value, which is the common default. The ledger stores the supplier unit cost and the additional cost component separately, so the average cost can be re-derived with or without additional costs included.
Does Stockie convert currencies?
Purchase orders stay in the supplier's currency rather than being converted, so the document matches what the supplier invoices. Exchange rate information is captured against cost events.
